Medical Acupuncture/Dry Needling

Medical Acupuncture or Dry Needling, are both known representations of thin needles which are inserted into a specific place on a person to help with musculoskeletal disorders or with dysfunction. They do not inject fluid into the body which is why it is known as dry needling.

A practitioner will place needles in specific locations to treat particular injuries or muscles, or they can also be placed into trigger points which are relaying pain to other locations or areas. Needles may be inserted into or nearby knotted muscle to help relieve discomfort and also help stimulate that particular piece of tissue. You may sometimes feel a pulsing sensation a twitch response, these indicate to the therapist that the muscle is responding to the needle which is the stimulation from use of the needle. Needles can be left in for shorter or longer periods of time dependent on the effect of practitioner is trying to have.
